Question

Convereted primary home to rental but TurboTax asking me to enter mortgage interest and loan details for my primary home?

We converted our primary home to a rental in December 2017. For the entire 2018 it was rental and I have entered the relevant mortgage interest details under Rental Properties nd Royalties section of the program.

TurboTax software assumes I still own a home in 2018, and is asking me to enter all  details including mortgage interest, did I refinance outstanding mortgage principal , if the loan was used for anything else besides purchase of the home.

I want to make some change in my TurboTax entry which clarifies that we no longer OWN a home. We converted it to a rental property so it would be now considered a RENTAL. I must have missed making that change. How and where do I address it?

Per ypour suggestions , in the Rental Properties and Royalties section, I checked the box indicating that I converted the property from personal use to rental use.

However, TurboTax still  prompts me that " You told us you owned a home in 2018, but we didn't see any home-related expenses".This is under Under Deductions and Credits. I dont own a home per se - its a rental now.

How do I address this issue?

In your original post, you did not mention that you converted your principal residence to rental use in 2017.

In that event, you should not check the box indicating you converted to rental use in 2018 (2018 would be a full year of rental use).
