Depreciation and Amortization Under Construction 2021

I am still getting this notice, but I know that IRS has opened for filing today.  And the IRS forms seem to be released already.  Is anyone else still getting this message?  And if not, can anyone tell me how to overcome this issue.  I have already updated to latest version.  And I also uninstalled and reinstalled.

Form 4562 has become available, as have most of the other forms related to depreciation and amortization.

Here's when forms become available from TurboTax.

It is a good idea to first clear your cache and cookies - which means removing all of the temporary programs that can gum up your web browser.  If that doesn't work, try using a different web browser.

If that doesn't work I would recommend using the "Live Expert" help in the right upper corner to see if having someone walk you through helps.

Here is a link on how to clear your cache and cookies.

I'm using the download desktop version, so I think cookies do not apply right?

January 25, 2022

No, if you are using TurboTax Desktop the issue would not be cache and cookies.  You may need to update your TurboTax Software.

If you're on a PC, open TurboTax and select Check for Updates from the Online menu near the top. On a Mac, simply quit and reopen TurboTax. If there are any updates, you'll be prompted to download them.

Tips:

  • It's best to use a wired, high-speed connection when updating, both to save time and minimize data corruption.
  • If your connection drops in the middle of the update, try again; it should pick up where it left off.
  • If you're having trouble updating on your PC, try a manual update.

I am using TurboTax Premier 2021 for PC. After entering all my Depreciation and Amortization rental asset information, when I return to that section to check my numbers, I get the dreaded "Under Construction" notice. No matter what I do, TurboTax will not let me go into that section and edit the numbers I already entered previously. I have tried all suggestions in this forum, including updating, uninstalling and reinstalling TurboTax, manually updating, but nothing seems to work. It simply will not let me back into the rental depreciation section. I already spent hours entering all the data, and the forms are definitely available according to this. What else can I do to get my data back? This is so frustrating!

I spoke to a customer service rep on the TurboTax hotline. She said that the depreciation IRS form is not officially released until the first of February. So I'm going to sit tight for a few more days and see if the construction signed gets lifted.

Thats all we can do is wait. Just because the IRS is opened for filing, and/or just because the printable/paper forms are available, does not mean the IRS has finalized and released the electronic version. On top of that, after they do release the approved electronic version of a form, it's not like they're "instantly" available in any tax reporting software. They may have to be finalized first, then released by the software developer/provider.

I see this practically every year with the depreciation forms. One reason I don't even bother starting my tax return until mid Feb at the earliest.

I see same notice as of Feb-19.

It seems to continue "Depreciation and Amortization Under Construction"

I confirm I have the same issue on 2/19. Frustrating. I also need a 1116 form, which is also not available. I am using the online version.

February 27, 2022

I am having the same issue since Feb 20. I have also contacted a tax expect wo said there should be no problem. Form 4562 was listed in the error message as not ready bit according to the IRS list and the TE, it is available. I spent over an hour with support with no solution other than to try it again tomorrow. e also contacted 2 tech support specialists who could not resolve the issue.  So here I am today with the same message and still unable to see the numbers under depreciation. Filing to the IRS would have been completed by now but because if this I am in limbo. TT needs to step up and resolve this.

Using TT Premier online. March 1 today and still getting same message about form 4562. I spent another hour on the phone with a TT agent with no help, no solution. Has anyone had any progress with this error? THis is very frustrating especially hearing that this section would be available, Feb 26,28 now March 3.  Does anyone have a solution or helpful information? Some acknowledgement from TT would be appreciated but lacking.

@lenb1

I have this issue and another one with TT. I am giving up and switching to either TaxAct or OLT.com. Most likely the latter. I already have most of my federal return on them already. It was not difficult to switch, although none of the options have a questionnaire as thorough as TT. HR does not support one form I need and that is the reason I am not considering it. Good luck.

I removed my rental property and start over.

Then, the Under Construction message has disappeared.

I had to re-entry the property and its depreciation though, I was able to wrap up.

That is definitely software bug.  At least a workaround should be informed to users.

I need another way around this fix I have 20 properties on a schedule E and have everything complete except the depreciation and sale activity. Why not an update the software fix? I can’t enter all the past fixed assets for each property….I already spent about two weeks on this return…I need the past fixed assests to carry forward. Please advise.

It is now March 10, 2021, and counting!  My software still says the Depreciation and Amortization Form is under construction.  April 15 is just around the corner. . .

We all now know that the Form is not under construction and that it is readily available - we just can't use TurboTax to do our taxes if you need the Form in your Turbotax software.

I suggest do not depend on TurboTax if you have rental property. Their software is in a mess

get a CPA to do do your taxes for year 2022

I have also been waiting for this to be fixed now for over a week.. When can we expect this to be ready?  Turbo Tax had this problem last year..  NO Turbo Tax is not waiting on the IRS... it is ready according to their site.  I've been with Turbo Tax since 2008 if not before... this is the first time I have had any type of problem.. disappointed to say the least..  spending time chasing down a fix has become time consuming! it's March 20th, I need to finish my taxes!

Does anyone know a good attorney.  We have been pushed in circles on this form 4562.  Still have no fix.  I see no one else has either.  Support is terrible.  Been on phone several times.  I was sent patch that didn't work and also sent with link to this page to solve issues.  Last phone call the support representative stated they would check out issue and asked if I would wait on hold.  After 30 minutes of being on hold, phone went to busy signal.  Intuit is not solving this problem.  We all have paid for a reliable product and they are not supporting it.  There should be a class act law suit against this company.  Never had problems with them over the years and now this software has major issues and no one is willing to give proper support.  I've spent at least 20 hours unloading firewalls etc., reloading software, and nothing works.  Also, all the phone calls, with no real support.  They are anxious to get you off the phone and send email with problem solved.  This is really a bad joke this year.

We finally caved in last Sunday, April 03, 2022 and purchased TaxAct.  We spent several hours of going through all the depreciation items over all the years and it was painful.  We never received a response from TT that worked.  All the phone calls to TT and being left without help.  Also, the rudeness of being hung up on when asking for help with the technical issues with the form 4562.  Finally, we gave up.  The TaxAct took awhile to get all information loading into and cost a little more than TT, but worked like a charm.  We finally got a notification on April 06 from TT of an update to this issue.  Even though we used TaxAct, had to see if this update finally worked.  It did.  We then hit another snag as it would not let you file until you had a copy of your personal property tax.  There is a "yes" box and "no" box if you have received the copy of personal property tax.  The only box you could check was "yes" and we had not yet received our personal property tax form.  The copy actually arrived later in the mail that night and we were able to use it.  However, we already filed on April 03, and did no longer need the TT software.  I'm glad that TT fixed the issue and yes we could have probably waited, but to have a technical issue since the middle of January and not fix it till a little over a week before filing being due, was too close for us.  Hopefully all issues are resolved for the rest of you who stayed with TT till the end.
