Question

Do I, or do I not: "Convert this property from personal use to rental" for renting out some rooms in my primary residence?

2024 was the first year I rented out rooms to renters in my primary residence, and I checked the box in TurboTax that says "I rent out part of my house" -all good so far.

The next section says:
Converted:

  • Checkbox 1: "I converted this property from personal use to a rental in 2024";
  • Checkbox 2: I converted this property from a rental to a personal use in 2024."

Obviously I wouldn't select the second, but would I select the first? Or should I move ahead without selecting it, either? This question seems black and white/binary: either it's converted or it's not. And the answer is that it's only PARTIALLY converted, so I'm stuck and don't know which to choose (and worry that choosing the wrong one will screw things up for me in the future..). I've attached a screenshot of what I'm looking at below:

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

    Yes, check the first box if you started renting part of the property in 2024 - I converted this property from personal to rental use in 2024.
