Question

ETF proceeds $2.28. Cost basis $5182.30. Haven't sold a share. Enter cost basis in TT and reports a loss of $5180.02. Not sure how to enter this info from my 1099-B

The brokerage statement shows missing qty and cost basis and not reported to the IRS, although I bought the SLV ETF through the brokerage. (Perhaps, because it's a foreign investment it was not reported?) Now I bought this ETF in December 2022 and my December statement doesn't show proceeds of $2.28. I'm not sure how to enter the info in Turbo tax.

i would contact the brokerage to find out what the discrepancy is. I highly suspect the $2.28 was interest paid rather than a sale of the fund. Check to see if the $2.28 is from a 1099 INT reported on a consolidated 1099 B.

Since you bought the ETF in December and not sold it, this shouldn't be reported as a sale on a 1099B unless the brokerage liquidated it in 2022, which doesn't seem likely.

Thanks Dave. The $2.28 is not listed on my brokerage statement under 1099-INT. I'll have to call them and ask why the purchase and $2.28 is listed as Undetermined Term transaction when the purchase was made through them.
