Eviction moritorium

I tried to evict my tenant for non payment of rent.  Due to the Feds, I was unable to do this leaving them owing me almost 6k in back rent.

I reported the monies they actually paid, but how do I report the monies they did not pay?  My return looks like I rented the property for much less than the going rates.

Thanks

since you probably use the cash basis, since you didn't receive the $6K you are not taxed on it.  there is nothing to report in regard to this. you can not deduct the income you never got.  the IRS is well aware of rent moratoriums, so reporting less rent than prior years shouldn't be an issue. This is going to be quite common in 2020 and 2021
