How can I delete the sale of a rental property? It didn't happen, but the loss carryover is still being taken on my 1040.

I've tried the rental info screen, and the box "Sold rental property" is checked - but it won't let me uncheck it.

No, that doesn't work to print my TAX WORKSHEETS, the only thing I see is my tax return from PY.

You need the worksheet so let's try a back door method. Follow these steps:

    1. Select last year's tax return
    2. select add a state.
    3. Select Tax Tools on the left side of the online program screen.
    4. Select Print Center.
    5. Select Print, save or preview this year's return.
    6. Choose the option Include government and TurboTax worksheets

If you have sold the rental property, any carryover losses should have been taken in the year of sale of the property. If you still have the property, you will want to continue to report the carryover loss on your return until you have sold the property and can utilize the carryover loss.

If the property was sold in a prior year, review your return from the year of the sale and ensure that the carryover losses were used to offset the gains from the sale. If this is the case and you now need to remove the carryover, you may need to delete a form from TurboTax. Follow the instructions below depending on which version of TurboTax you are using. Look for any carryover loss worksheets.

The property was not sold. I tried to delete the carryover worksheet, it said it did - but my tax return is still wrong. How can I get help with turbotax?

If you would like to send us a “diagnostic” file that has your “numbers” but not your personal information it would help.  If you would like to do this, here are the instructions:  We need the name of your state as well.

    TurboTax Online:

Open your return -Go to the menu panel on the left side of your return and select Tax Tools.

    1. Then select Tools below Tax Tools.
    2. A window will pop up which says Tools Center.
    3. On this screen, select Share my file with Agent.
    4. You will see a message explaining what the diagnostic copy is.  Click okay through this screen and then you will get a Token number.
    5. Reply to this thread with your Token number and your state. This will allow us to open a copy of your return without seeing any personal information.

    TurboTax Desktop:

If you like, you can send a copy of your return that will be scrubbed to eliminate your personal data by using these steps:

    1. Click on Online in the top left menu of TurboTax CD/Download for Windows
    2. Select 'Send Tax File to Agent'
    3. Write down or send an image of your token number and state then place in this issue.
    4. We can then review your exact scenario for a solution.
    5. Please also tell us any states included in the return. This is necessary for us to view the return.

We will then be able to see exactly what you are seeing and we can determine what exactly is going on in your return and provide you with a resolution.
