We can give you the navigation steps to do that.

Which is your situation?   Have you already filed your return, or is it still in the preparation stage (hopefully) and has not yet been filed?

If you're still preparing the return, when you go to the Tax Home, does TurboTax think you were finished and the return interview is closed?  If so, we can tell you how to open it back up to continue the return and how to get to the right section.

If you have already actually filed the return, then your task becomes more complicated.

First, thanks for helping

I have not filed (program waiting for command)

I am too old for this aggravation

Can you tell me how to enter these losses to cover my gains?

Here's how to navigate so you can enter capital loss carryover from your 2020 return:

First, you have to open your unfiled return interview back up.

At the Tax Home or in the section "Your Tax Returns & Documents" look for a link "Add a State" and click.  That doesn't really add one, but it opens the unfiled return back up.

  • Once the return interview is open, you should have a full left column menu.
  • Go to the left column menu and click on TAX TOOLS, then in a submenu you can click TOOLS.
  • In the Tools window choose the blue button TOPIC SEARCH.
  • In the search line enter the exact phrase capital loss carryover without quotes.
  • In the results list select capital loss carryover (it may already be highlighted) and click GO.
