At the end of the year, I bought a property where my dependent child, who is a full-time student resides and I rent the other rooms. Do I count this as a partial residence?

Yes, part personal, part rental. Use IRS | Pub 527 as your new reference for all things rental.

Follow the program as it asks you questions.

When the program asks for rental and personal days, you will have 0 days of personal use of the rental portion of the property. The program does not ask how many days you used the personal section of the property.
