Question

How do I record a common stock donation to a charity? TT askes for cost basis in stock which is not relevant. Should I enter zero as the cost basis?

I donated share of an index fund to a charity. When I enter it in TT, TT asks for the cost basis which is not relevant; I should receive full donation for the value of the securities donated, not the appreciated value.

the basic online version does not include schedule A or form 8283 which is where donations of publicly traded stock are reported in section A.
