If you're having difficulty editing many cost basis 1099-B transactions, you may report the summary totals of your 1099-B transactions. You'll need to send a copy of your 1099-B's to the IRS within three days of your return being accepted. Just indicate in TurboTax that you are mailing in your 1099-B's or 8949 to the IRS. TurboTax will generate Form 8453 which will be sent with the information.

Please follow the steps  below to enter summary totals instead of entering your 1099-B transactions one by one.

  • Type 1099-B in the search box and select the Jump to 1099-B.
  • On the Your investments and savings screen, scroll down to Add investments.
  • On the Relax. We got ii screen, Continue.
  • On the Let's import your tax info screen, select Enter a different way.
  • On the OK, let's start with one investment type screen, select Stocks, Bonds, Mutual Funds and Continue.
  • On the Which bank or brokerage sent you a 1099-B for these sales screen, enter the information and Continue.
  • On the Tell us about the sales on your XXX 1099-B screen, answer the questions. Make sure, when asked, Do you have more than three sales on your 1099-B?, you answer Yes (4+) then Continue.
  • On the Now, choose how to enter your sales screen, select Sales section totals and Continue.
  • On the following screens you'll be asked for totals.
