I have 2 rental properties. Please confirm I enter the mortgage interest expense within the rental section, and NOT again under the "deduction" section? Is this correct?

You are correct. Only enter the mortgage interest on your rental properties in the Schedule E, Rentals, data input area. Do not enter it again in the itemized deduction area for Schedule A.
