Question

I have a depreciation question. When to put a bathroom in service if I purchased items for the bathroom over several years, lived in it and rented the house in 2017?

I purchased Turbo Premier Edition this year for my rental property.  I lived in a house which I rented in part of 2017.  The house was built while I lived in it and I would like to depreciate the expenses.  If I purchased the building materials for the bathroom over the past several years, when I enter the total cost of the bathroom expenses, fixtures, etc. which date do I use for the purchase date since there are many dates?  This is the first year I am depreciating the cost and would like to enter as a lump sum instead of individual expenses?  I need a telephone number for Turbo Tax assistance.  I tried calling the IRS and the recording said they no longer answer these questions and to check the online information.

TurboTax's support phone number is (800) 446-8848. I would group all the bathroom remodeling expenses together. The date the bathroom was placed in service is the date when the bathroom remodel was completed. I would enter one asset called something like "bathroom remodel" into TurboTax.
