Question

I have a home in Georgia and live in Virginia. I do not rent out my home in Georgia. Can I use the mortgage interest as a deductible?

Yes, you can treat mortgage interest on up to two homes as an itemized deduction. You don't have to live in the second home in order to treat the mortgage interest as an itemized deduction. In this case your home in Virginia is your main home and the home in Georgia is your second home. If you have a mortgage on your main home you can deduct that mortgage interest too.
