I have a rental. Do I actually have to break down each expense catagory: cleaning supplies, paint, tools etc?

No, you don't need to break out every cost, but you do need to group your expenses according to the tax rental categories. See the listing from schedule E in the screenshot below. The software walks you through adding all of your expenses and assets for depreciation (the rental house itself + furniture, etc.).
