Question

I have more than one rental property. I have two different 1098's. Doesn't seem to be anyway to enter both unless I add them together? TT premier.

It depends on how you are reporting your rental properties.

If you normally add all of your rental property information into one property, you will need to add the amounts together.

If you have a separate rental section for each property, which is the better to do it, you can just report the figures from your 1098 forms to the property that it is for.

  1. Select Federal.
  2. Select Wages and Income toward the top left
  3. Scroll down/ expand the list and look for Rentals and Royalties.
  4. Expand that section and find Rental Properties and Royalties (Sch E).
  5. Click Start on the right.
  6. Answer the first question Yes.
  7. Continue until you get the screen titled, Rental and Royalty Summary.
  8. Select Start or Edit to the right of your rental.
  9. When you get to the screen that says, Review your rental summary.
  10. Select Start to the right of Expenses.
  11. In the next several screens you will find fields to enter your insurance, real estate taxes, mortgage interest and points listed on your 1098 form.
  12. Once you complete the first one, you can select the other rental and do the same.
