I just want to know where I put the amount of my on my income tax form where I paid rent for the year

Rent is not deductible on your Federal Income Tax; however, some States do allow it.

 

States that have anything as a rent deduction are Arizona, California,  Connecticut,  Hawaii,  Indiana, Iowa, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, New Jersey, Rhode Island,  Vermont and Wisconsin.
