I'm a sole proprietor AND I have a rental property. How do I divide expenses? Example, does phone bill go in sch. C or sch. E? I use phone for both duties.

I don't know how to handle shared expenses for my RE business and my rental.  Expenses like phone where I use my phone for both entities I'm not sure which schedule to put them under.

    You have to allocate the expenses, in that case.

    Say your phone is used 70% for personal, 25% for business, 5% for rental.

    70% doesn't get written off, 25% goes on Schedule C, 5% on Schedule E.
