Question

I'm entering my 1098 forms for the mortgage interest deduction page and it auto-populated the 1098 for my rental property. It's not covered but should I delete the 1098?

Yes, if the Form 1098 for the rental got imported in the mortgage deduction section for Schedule A then you have to delete this Form 1098 and reenter it in the rental property section.

To delete Form 1098 in the mortgage deduction section:

  1. Login to your TurboTax Account
  2. Click on "Search" on the top right and type “1098”
  3. Click on “Jump to 1098” and you should see the “Here's your 1098 info” screen
  4. Click the “Trash icon” next to the 1098 you wish to delete.

Please see Where do I enter income and expenses from a rental property? and What kinds of rental property expenses can I deduct? for additional information.
