Question

I moved out of my primary home in July 2021 and then spent about $7,000 on repairs to rent it out the rest of the year. Why isn't TurboTax giving me the whole deduction?

I'm only getting the prorated amount (from the time the home was rented thru end of year). But the repairs were made after I vacated and for the sole purpose of getting renters.

TurboTax Premier Online

You can't take deductions for vacant property. This was not a rental until you actually placed it in service. Your improvements are added to the basis of the property.
