If I did not sell any stocks in my broker account last year do I need to report it to the IRS? I did own some but just did not sell.

No. You don't report ownership or purchases of stocks. You only report sales and dividends.

The only time you'd need to report the mere existence of securities would relate to foreign accounts (this would not include owning foreign company stock in a US brokerage account).
