If I have lived in Indianna as a student and worker, and my parents sold primary residency in michigan. Do I technically have indianna residency where i rent?

    It depends.  Did/Do you live in Indiana all year or just during school sessions?  Do your parents claim you as a dependent on their tax return?  When did they move out of Michigan?  Where do they live now (i.e., do you move there when not in school?)?

     

    Typically, the IRS considers education to be a temporary absence, so you would still be considered a Full Year Resident of Michigan.  Thus, in this scenario you would file a resident MI return and a non-resident IN return.
