Question

Im a MI resident and I rent a condo with my partner. On the 'Location of Property' page, do I qualify? It asks if I own or rent a home on which prop taxes were paid?

Is a rented condo/apartment considered a 'home'? I wouldn't think I qualify for a homestead property tax credit if we don't own. Please help!

You may claim a Michigan Homestead property tax credit if all of the following apply:

  1. Your homestead is located in Michigan
  2. You were a Michigan resident at least six months of 2021
  3. You pay property taxes  or rent on your Michigan homestead
  4.  You were contracted to pay rent or own the home you live in.
