Import not pulling in any stock transactions-Fidelity or Vanguard

Imported 1099's yesterday and there are no stock transactions for either my Fidelity or Vanguard account.  I can see them on the 1099 that each account has published.  Just talked to tech support and they said if the import didn't pull them in, the only option is to manually enter them into Turbotax.  Anyone else have this problem?

@rondrummond

You may want to check and see if your financial institution or brokerage is a TurboTax 1099 partner.

Fidelity Investments is a partner, and I was able to import last year.  Fix the bug in TurboTax that is preventing the import, or I'll need to find another way to do my taxes.

I had the same problem.  Well, not exactly the same.  When I switch back to Turbotax, I'm presented with an error that the 1099B didn't load.

I know I have less than 10,000 transactions.  I guess I will have to enter the summary.  So much for the benefit of TurboTax importing the information so I don't have to.

There appears to be a flaw in security.  The screen which requests the user name and password does not display if Fidelity is open in another window.  The import then pulls in the data for the account that you are logged in to.  It does not matter whose return you are preparing!!! If Fidelity is closed, then the system hangs up when the user name and password is entered followed by a phone code.  Is there a solution for this problem?

I have a BUG in my Fidelity Investments 1099B Import / I did all the steps / Last step said- CONNECTION COMPLETE / SUCCESS WE GOT YOUR TAX DATA / YOU CAN NOW RETURN TO TURBO TAX , after that nothing, I have to go through the process over and over in an endless loop.  Please help with this frustrating issue.

A technical service person at Turbotax was able to help me create an online return. We were able to import all of the 1099 forms.

We were then able to download the file to my laptop and open the return and all  of my 1099 data was there.

The online version didn't import last years data so I now have one return with last years data and other input I made this year.

I need to figure out if there is a way to import last years data into the file with the imported data.

It appears there is a problem with the import process on the download version.

This has been way more complicated than it should be.  Hopefully, it will be fixed soon.  I need to take a deep breath and figure out my next steps.

So happy for you you found someone willing to address the import problem!! Good luck getting the rest of your data in the correct places!

We are having this problem with Fidelity. First we get a message that the import is successful. Then back in TurboTax we get a message that the import failed and we are referred to a link about what to do with more than 10,000 transactions. We do not have that many transactions. At most we have less than half that many. We are using the cd-rom which is supposed to accommodate 10,000. Apparently it does not, not even close. We have communicated with Fidelity and understand that all is well on its end. We know that we can input data manually, but that is not why we purchased TurboTax.

I think there are many threads on this same topic (regarding imports and other investment groups and banks)- if someone were to put them on the same thread it would be outstanding.  I can not believe that TT has not addressed this or at least confided it is an issue they are trying to address.  These so called "experts" that keep responding with comments that do not help crack me up!

Same problem.  I get a screen that the import was succesful but it pulls no transactions of any kind.

I have some good news.  I was able to create an online return and import two different accounts from Fidelity.

Make sure that when you start the return, you specify that your 2021 taxes were done in the download/cd version.  When you do that, last year's data is retrieved.

You will have to clear any warning messages before you can download the return for further processing in the program version.

There are three steps:

  • Start an online return using the last year's file from your computer
  • Correct any warnings. (if you want, you can go through the menus and add other data)
  • Download the online file to your PC.

When I asked for help, I used the phone option and then requested technical support.

If you have gotten this far, please don't be afraid to ask for help at the service center.  We were able to do screen sharing so they could walk me through the steps.

And yes, I did have to reenter information that I had put in the program before the import error but I have a return with no errors.

I'm sure that during tax season, the IT folks have a list a mile long of things not working or improvements.

TT is providing technical help for a workaround.  If TT support helps enough folks, it may raise the issue on the priority list.

I hope this post helps others get their taxes completed.  The road may be a little bumpy but you will get there.

Thanks for all the work you have put into finding an imperfect solution and posting results.  Have the same problem.  Have already spent too much time entering much manually to start over, but thanks for this.  Hopefully the glitches I have run into this year will be fixed for next year, but made sure I bookmarked this in case not.

The reason I buy this software is to automatically download large broker statements, which I can no longer do. Turbo Tax's solution to this problem is to hire a third party consultant to prepare Schedule D and Form 8949 so that I can manually enter the information into Turbo Tax.  That makes this software worthless to me.  I've been using TurboTax for more than 10 years, but this will be the last.

March 22, 2023

Did you read the full thread?  There is a workaround.  The good folks at TT don't always give the correct answer.

I don't always give the best answer.  I used the workaround and have the imported data on my laptop.

Open your Fidelity account prior to accessing your tax files using TurboTax; rather than following TurboTax to access Fidelity login itself.

It immediately downloaded all files.

Good luck.

It won't pull my Fidelity Information. I've disabled dual factor and it still wont work, even though I can see the information when I sign on to Fidelity. I agree, download is a chief reason I use this software, if it won't work, then I'll change vendors.  Bill 6
