Question

In 2020 I had a capital loss, in 2021 I had a carryover. In 2022 I do NOT have any additional carryover. How do I remove Schedule D?

Do not remove Schedule D. The IRS allows you to claim up to $3,000 per year ($1,500 if married filing separately) of capital losses against ordinary income even if you did not have any capital gains or losses for 2022.

You can continue to claim a capital loss carryforward until it is used up, either from capital gains or the $3,000 deduction.

Thank you for your response.  The capital loss has been used up and I have nothing further to carry forward.  However, on turbo tax it is using schedule D with zero as the loss and forcing me to upgrade to Premier.  When I try edit, it defaults to upgrade for $89.  How do I eliminate schedule D being attached?

Follow these directions to delete the Schedule D How do I view and delete forms in TurboTax Online? then Clear and Start Over.   @pmelton34
