Question

My landlord asked me to file form 1099 misc for the rent I paid. The rent is a business location, however I do not have business revenue.

Does the 1099 misc ask what the property is rented for?

No, the 1099-MISC only reports that the income was rent, not what the rental was for.

You can report the rent you paid to him on Form 1099-MISC.

He does not NEED Form 1099-MISC to claim the rent income, but if you are a business, and you paid rent, you should issue that form and send him a copy. (The IRS gets a copy as well)

Even with no business income, you could claim business expenses if the business is active.

Filing Form 1099-MISC was due January 31, 2025
