Question

My rental gets a1099 Misc. I always file this way. Now turbo tax wants me to enter the rents into a schedule C. Why? Nothing has changed in the service I provide.

Did you enter the IRS form 1099-MISC within the self-employment activity or somewhere else?

If the form was entered outside of the self-employment activity, Schedule C would be one of the options that the software directs the income to.

Recommend that the IRS form 1099-MISC be entered within the self-employment activity:

    • Down the left side of the screen, click Federal.
    • Down the left side of the screen, click Wages & Income.
    • Click the down arrow to the right of Self-employment.
    • Click to the right of Self-employment income and expenses.
    • At the screen Your 2024 self-employed work summary, click Edit to the right of the self-employment activity.
    • At the next screen, click Add income for this work.
    • Select Form 1099-MISC.
