Rental Property

TurboTax is insisting that I have rental property. It wants me to update Schedule E Worksheet, but that is difficult to do when I do not have any rental property. I chatted with someone from Intuit yesterday, but he couldn't figure it out either. Any suggestions, Intuit?

Are you reporting royalty income or a K-1 with rental activity or a K-1 for an S corporation?  Those activities may generate a Schedule E Worksheet.

Are you able to view the Schedule E Worksheet to see what income is reported?

In the online versions, you may view or print at Tax Tools / Print Center / Print, save or preview this year's return / Include government and TurboTax worksheets after you have paid for the software.

In the Desktop versions, one can look at the tax return by clicking FORMS, or by viewing the PDF through the Print Center.

To see whether you have created a rental or royalty activity, follow these steps:

    • Down the left side of the screen, click on Federal.
    • Down the left side of the screen, click on Wages & income.
    • Scroll down to Rentals, Royalties, and Farm.  Select Show more.
    • Select Start / Revisit to the right of Rental Properties and Royalties.
    • At the screen Your 2022 rentals and royalties summary, you are able to view any rental or royalty activity that has been created.
    • Click the Delete trashcan to the right of the activity to remove the activity.

I found Schedule E, deleted it, and it seems to have solved the problem. Thanks.

Also, if you have a 1099-MISC with income reported in either box 1 or box 2, that gets reported on SCH E and will automatically generate SCH E when the 1099 data is entered.
