Question

showing adjustment

Cost basis on 1099-b incorrect and needs to be adjusted to reflect additional cost.  When I put in the correct basis, it does not show an adjustment "B" on the 8949, but just the corrected cost basis with a 0 adjustment.  Gain is correct but form looks wrong.

Went into Cap Gain Worksheet to enter manually, but gives me an error for code "B"

Thank you.

You are able to move forward even if you feel an adjustment code is missing if you know you have the correct cost basis and sales price. If you are not prompted but want to mail the Form 8453 with your Form 8949 to the IRS after your return has been accepted through e-file, use the instructions below.

If you are e-filing your tax return, then mail your statements along with Form 8453 to:

    Internal Revenue Service

    Attn: Shipping and Receiving, 0254

    Receipt and Control Branch

    Austin, TX 73344-0254

If you need a blank Form 8453, you can download this pdf, enter your address information and check the box for Form 8949 (this form is really just a cover sheet).
