Sold home Feb in CA. Moved to Texas and rent a home there. Which state do I file in?

If you moved to Texas with the intent of living there permanently and have taken other steps to establish residency (driver's license, banking voter registration) you became a Texas resident in February.  For 2017, you would have to file a Part Year California tax return (if required).  Texas does not have a personal income tax so there is no state tax to file.
