Hi,

My son is freshman at a college in NYU state. I got 1098-T from the college that shows I paid 34K as his tuition fees and got 21K as scholarship. I also paid about $200 for the student loan interest. I entered all these details in Turbotax but It tell me that I am not eligible for any Education Tax Credit because of my Income. Is there any cap on the income above which you do not get the education credit ?

Is there any other deduction or credit I can be eligible for in lieu of my son's eduction / college expense ?

You will not qualify for an education credit if your modified adjusted gross income is over $90,000 (single filer) or $180,000 (married/joint filer). Student loan interest is not deductible if your modified adjusted gross income is over $95,000 (single) or $195,000 (married/filing joint). I know of no other possible tax breaks related to your education expenses.
