Hi,

if I have a rental property on a different state (I work/live in state A, and the rental property in state B), should I prepare two state returns for state A and B?

If the state you live/work in taxes your income, then income property or not you still pay state imposed taxes on your income. Your rental property making money for you in another state requires you to pay taxes on the monies made there.

thank you darysmi. allow me to pick your expertise bit more. if my rental property (in a different state) does not make money (after calculating mortgage/hoa/expenses from the income), do I still need to file return for that state?
