Question

Stock was sold in a merger of companies. My cost basis shows as $0 because the amount of the original stock I purchased is missing. How do I correct that?

I bought stock in a company that later merged with another company and paid out in both stock and cash. The proceeds for cash show up in my 1099-B but the cost basis for the original stock purchase do not. How do I correct this problem as it's calculating as if I gained on the entire amount of the transaction which is wrong.

contact the broker.   otherwise, you would need to go back and find info about the merger to compute your tax basis. sometimes contacting shareholder services of the acquiring company can provide worksheets or info on how to compute basis.
