Options include purchase, inheritance, short sale, divorce, gift and demutualization. None of these are correct. Please help ! Tx

You can select "Purchase" because the spinoff was the result of owning the Merck stock, which I assume you purchased.

Please clarify what information you have.

  • Is this reported on a 1099-B or a different 1099 form?
  • What do you have for dates or values?
  • What boxes are they reported in?

John - Tx for your reply. My question pertains to Merck's spinoff of Organon. When handling the 1099B I received from the proceeds from broker and barter exchange transactions statement. Turbotax does not offer in the pull down menu an option for that description - "Cash payment of fractional shares in lieu of shares" . TT pulldown menu only offers the options such as purchase, inheritance, divorce, demutualization, and I believe gift. There is no option of "cash payment in lieu of fractional shares", although the TurboTax help does mention that as a option but again, that option doesn't exist in a pulldown menu. So my question again is any thought as to which option to choose based on the ones I just mentioned. Thank you.
