Question

Turbo Tax Reducing Rental Real Estate Property Taxes

Hi -

I'm entering income and expenses for a rental property. Whatever amount I enter into the form, TurboTax reduces it by 60%. Is this a bug, or something that TurboTax is calculating behind the scenes and not telling me?

Thanks!

The calculation is most likely a result of entering  personal use days for your property.

Go back through the Property Profile section of your Rental Income and Expenses section and double-check those entries.  Remember, this is asking for personal use days after the property was a rental property.

For example, if it was previously your personal residence and converted to a rental during 2023, then all of the time you lived there before it was converted does not count as a personal use day.

Thanks very much for the response. This makes sense. I wish TurboTax would "show" how this is happening.
