Question

Where do I enter Airbnb employer identification number? Doesn’t the government need this to match records with Airbnb?

When you rent your property through Airbnb, you are not an employee, but a landlord.  Your room rental income is reported on Schedule E "Rental and Royalty Income" and Airbnb is not required to provide you with an EIN.

Everything you need from Airbnb is shown on your 2017 Earnings Summary.  To enter your rental income in TurboTax, please follow these steps:

  • In your open Federal Return, choose the tab for Wages & Income
  • Scroll down to Rental Properties and Royalties (Sch E) and Show more or Edit/Add and answer Yes.
  • Answer the rental property interview questions.

But if there no way to link the two of them without having my social or there Employer Identification number, why do I even have to file it?
