There is not a rent deduction or credit on your Federal return.  If your state has anything for renters you will be prompted to enter your rent info when you complete your state return.  As far as I know, the states that have anything for rent are Arizona, California, Connecticut, Hawaii, Indiana, Iowa, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, New Jersey, New York, Rhode Island, Vermont, Washington DC, and Wisconsin.

Some states offer a credit or deduction based on rent paid. Which state are you filing?  Am I eligible for a state renter's tax credit? - TurboTax Support

I’m filing Maine but can’t find where to fill it out? Would it be sales tax on casual rentals of living quarters? Or did you own or rent your Maine home? Is that the question I say yes to for my apartment I paid rent for?

Correct. You will answer YES, when it asks if you owned or rented your Maine home. See images below for reference

    • Answer Yes to this question. It will trigger more questions in regards to the rent you paid
    • Enter the address you used to live in Maine if it's different from the one you gave on your federal return.

    • Enter the total amount paid for rent during the year

    • Proceed to enter Landlord's information and remaining questions in this section.
