there are 2 options to choose from: blank or various dates. When choosing the blank option i get feedback that says i need more information. But the box on the 1099 is blank and the more info says to choose blank

I'm not sure why the blank option doesn't work, but why not go ahead on use Various?

TurboTax does not allow you to leave Date Acquired EMPTY. That's all there is to it.

Unfortunately, Blank is not an option. It's the title of the box. It indicates that your 1099-B is blank on the brokerage form.

There are only 2 alternatives.

  1. Enter a date.
  2. Select Various.

The date is used to confirm long/short term gains.

  • If you know approximately when you purchased it, use a similar date.
  • If you have a history of the stock, you can find a value close to the purchase price and use that date.
  • Or as @robtm suggested, you can use Variable, and it will default to the sales section posted earlier for this record.
