I am assuming you received a 1099-B with capital gains. You state that it was not reported by you to the IRS.

  • If you have not filed an accepted return, the 1099-B can be entered into the program under the stock /1099-B section of income.
  • If your return has already been accepted, you will need to file an amended return to add the income. Should I file an amended return

If you mean that you did enter the form and you have no form 8949 and no sch D, you should review your entries and ensure each question has an answer. You must have a cost basis, zero if you don't know it, date sold, date acquired, sales price.

If this does not help, please reply with more information.

I filed with turboTax and f illed in info from my 1099b as requested by Turbotax.  There is a form 8949 but no sched D.  I had no way of knowing about the problem until I realized that my capital gains were not reflected anywhere.  I filled in everything requested and Turbotax reviewed everything and found nothing.  Since I paid for preparation of my return, shouldn’t Turbotax assist e in filing an amended return, if that is necessary?    I don’t know where to begin!

I really appreciate your help. Thank you.  I do have all theinfo re: cost basis, etc.

To clarify, does your 8949 show a gain? (Totals on line 2 on Form 8949)

the 1099-B does not appear by magic. you must either enter the transactions yourself or import them from a TurboTax partner and after import, you must check for missing or incorrect info.
