Question

Will turbo tax update with the IRS about the new bank information I provided to get my 2nd stimulus check? I was one of the few that was impacted for the 2nd round.

I had the chance to update my information for the 2nd round when everything went downhill about sending payments to wrong accounts. So I updated a new bank with turbo tax, I have not filed this year yet so I did not have a chance to put in a different account, but turbo tax does have my most recent one from the 2nd stimulus check.

It depends. The IRS will use the information from the last information they have on file. You can check the Get My Payment tool with the link below to see what account your third stimulus payment is going to.

Per the IRS, if your payment can’t be delivered to you for any reason, it will be returned to the IRS. To get your payment reissued:

  • Set up direct deposit with Get My Payment. After your payment is returned to the IRS, your payment status will update to “Need More Information.” You can then choose direct deposit to a:
    • Bank account
    • Prepaid debit card (must be reloadable; contact the card issuer for information)
    • Alternative financial products that have a routing and account number associated with them
  • Update your address with the IRS. The easiest way is to file your 2020 tax return with your current address, if you haven’t already done so. Once we receive your current address, we will reissue your payment.
