automatic deduction of owed state tax from stimulus check?

Whats up with the stimulus check??? 15 minutes after it hit my account the IRS took out state owed taxes! Is that legal?????

Do you owe back state tax?

The IRS does not take out or pay state tax. If your bank account has been attached or garnished by the state for back tax then that is between you and the bank and state. Ask you bank if they have received an attachment order from the state or court.

If the IRS deposited too much then the IRS can remove the excess.
