It would be illegal to amend your returns for the purpose of obtaining the stimulus payment for yourself, absent another valid reason (e.g., a mistake on the return) to amend them. Plus, if your boyfriend were to amend his return to remove you as a dependent, he would have to pay back any tax break he received for claiming you, plus penalties and interest.

If you were required required to file a 2019 tax return at all, then you must have earned more then $4,200 in 2019. If so, then you CANNOT be claimed as a dependent by your BF. He should amend and remove you before the IRS figures it out and bills him for back tax plus interest and penalties.

1. The person cannot be your qualifying child or the qualifying child of any other taxpayer.
2. The person either must be related to you, or must live with you all year (all 365 days - There are exceptions for temporary absences such as school, illness, business, vacation, military service) as a member of your household.
3. The person's gross income for the year must be less than $4,200 (tax-exempt income, such as certain social security benefits, is not included in gross income)
4. You must provide more than half of the person's total support** for the year.

In any case, the person must be a U.S. citizen, U.S. resident alien, U.S. national, or a resident of Canada or Mexico
