I stated that I can be claimed as a dependent, but I wasn't claimed. Am I eligible for the Stimulus check?

Hi all,

I worked the majority of 2019 and was unemployed towards the end of the year.

I filed for my 2019 tax return this February when I was still unemployed, and stated that I can be claimed as a dependent as my sister was taking care of me for roughly 6 months while I was out of job.

She ended up not claiming me, and I will not be claimed for 2019/2020.

I filed as single, and was fully employed and was not a dependent for 2018 tax year either if that matters.

All other elements seem to point to that I will be getting a stimulus check, except that when I go on irs.gov's payment status page it says that it cannot determine my eligibility, and of course I haven't received anything in my bank account (I only have one that I use for tax returns).

Does anyone else have this issue, and what can I do in this situation?

Do I request for amend just to state that I will not be claimed as a dependent, and will it fix the situation for the current round of stimulus checks?

I can't even reach the IRS of course, so this is frustrating.

Turbotax's eligibility questionnaire also says that I should be eligible for the check.

Help! I'm in an e[product key removed]s situation like so many others are as well.

Any input would be very helpful. Thank you!

Yes, if you stated that you can be claimed as a dependent then you cannot receive the stimulus payment. Please see Who can I claim as my dependent? for details. You will need to file an amended return (1040X). The IRS will only accept amended returns via mail. Usually, it takes up to 16 weeks to process Form 1040X but the IRS is currently not processing any paper return. Therefore, it might be taking even longer.
