Question

If I didn't receive an email on Jan. 8th will I possibly receive one over the weekend?

If we didn't receive an email today (Jan. 8,2021) will they be sending more as they get to them or are we just stuck waiting until we get our refunds? They need to give more information on what the heck is going on because they all have differing information. We got our first stimulus no problem but now when we could really use the money we get nothing and no one to answer our questions.

Here is the text of the e-mail:

We are happy to share that stimulus payments will begin to be deposited starting January 8th.  We expect most payments to be available that day, but your bank could take a few business days to process. Your payment will be deposited into the same bank account that you received your 2019 tax refund.

We have been working tirelessly with the Treasury and IRS to get your stimulus payment to you.  We know how important these funds are for so many Americans and we regret that an IRS error caused a delay in you receiving your stimulus payment.

For more information about stimulus payments, please go here

To check on your second stimulus payment, please follow these steps:

    1. Check the IRS Get My Payment tool. The tool should tell you where your stimulus payment was
deposited or mailed. The IRS has indicated there’s nothing you can do to change where they send your payment.
    2. If your payment was delivered to a prepaid Turbo® Visa® Debit Card and you no longer have it, we’ll help you get a replacement card at no cost.  Just click on this link:  Get a replacement card
    3. If you paid for TurboTax with your refund last year, we have given the IRS your correct account information and they are working to send your payment within days.
    4. If you were entitled to a stimulus payment but did not receive one, and you didn’t pay for TurboTax with your refund last year, you may need to claim the Recovery Rebate Credit on your 2020 taxes to get your money.

So even if we didn't get the email we may get our stimulus?

    January 8, 2021

Correct.  Just keep checking the IRS Get My Payment tool. The tool should tell you where your stimulus payment was deposited or mailed. The IRS has indicated there’s nothing you can do to change where they send your payment.   Note that it is updated only once a day, overnight.

If you do not receive the stimulus payment, you can make an adjustment on your 2020 tax return for stimulus payments you qualify for, but have not received.

To do this in TurboTax, please follow these steps:

    1. Enter the information in your return.
    2. Click Federal Review at the top of your screen.
    3. On the screen, Let's make sure you got the right stimulus amount, click Continue.
    4. You will be asked about the amounts of first round and second round stimulus payments you received
    5. TurboTax will then calculate the amount of stimulus payment remaining that you are still entitled to.  This will show as a credit on line 30 of the 1040.
