Hi. I tried to claim my boyfriend on my taxes. I couldn't because I actually got to work only about 6 weeks in all last year. His name still showed on my return. Can & how does he get the stimulus check?
You tried to claim your BF as a dependent----and now his return is being rejected? He has to print sign and mail his own return in since you used his SSN and put it into the system for this year. He will not be able to e-file now. And you need to amend your own return after it has been fully processed and remove him as a dependent. All of this will delay his stimulus check, unfortunately.
How do I amend my 2019 TurboTax Online return?
A 1040X cannot be e-filed. It must be printed and mailed. It will take about 4 months for the IRS to process an amended return. It is a good idea to use a mailing service that will track it, like UPS or certified mail, so you will know it was received.
Wait about 3 weeks from mailing and you can check the status of your amended return:
