Question

1099-R

My wife had transferred her 401 from her former employer to her new employer. We did not withdraw the money, but received a 1099-R which looks to have added to our income because we are paying significantly more in taxes. Does transferring like that get taxed?

Thank you!

Is the code in box 7 of the 1099-R a G indicating a rollover?  If so, after completing the Form 1099-R answer the question presented carefully.  The amount on the 1099-R will be entered on your Form 1040 Line 5a with the word ROLLOVER and a 0 entered on Line 5b for the taxable amount.

Thank you! I can't see line 5b on my 1040 without filing however
