Box 9a on your 1099-R form indicates the percentage of the total distribution that is taxable. This box is typically used when the distribution is split between multiple beneficiaries

    • If Box 9a on your 1099-R is not populated, it usually means the distribution wasn't split. TurboTax may still require an entry to proceed. Here’s what you can do:
    • Leave Box 9a Blank: Try leaving Box 9a blank in TurboTax. This is often the correct approach if the box is empty on your form. Click on the box and hit the backspace/delete buttons several times to ensure it registers as blank.
    • Delete and Re-enter: If leaving it blank doesn't work, delete the 1099-R form in TurboTax and re-enter it manually, ensuring Box 9a is left blank
