1099-R for pension, appearing as capitol gain

I received a 1099-R form for a pension that I receive from a company that I worked for long ago. On Schedule D this amount shows up as a capital gain on line 13 of part 2. It also is reported on schedule 1040, line 4d. Is this correct? In previous years it only appeared on schedule 1040, line 4d; i.e. it did not appear as a capital gain.

Form 1099-R has a box 3 that shows the amount of capital gain included in Box 2a, the taxable amount of the distribution.

If you have an amount in Box 3 of your 1099-R, it will be reported as a capital gain.

if you do not have an amount in Box 3, you should check your 1099-R entries to be sure you did not enter an amount by mistake.

I don't think it possible to get any amount entered on TurboTax's 1099-R form to appear on Schedule D line 13.  As far as I know, amounts entered in box 3 of Form 1099-R will only propagate to Schedule D if the distribution is from a charitable gift annuity reported with code F in box 7 of the Form 1099-R and even then it will appear elsewhere on Schedule D and will be excluded from Form 1040 line 4d.  The only source of an amount on Schedule D line 13 that I'm aware of is box 2a of a Form 1099-DIV.
