Question

1099-Rs including After-Tax and Before-Tax money distributions

When Turbo Tax imports 1099-Rs; it doesn't distinguish Before-tax and After-tax money.

I've tracked my After-Tax IRA at Turbo Tax worksheet. However, after import 1099-Rs, Turbo Tax combines both Before-Tax and After-Tax 1099-R amounts into After-Tax worksheet.

Looks like Turbo Tax doesn't consider such "multiple 1099-Rs" scenarios !! It'll be very simple if I could manually edit the amount at 1040 Item#4 but Turbo Tax seems doesn't allow to edit the forms directrly.

Any suggestion ??

Yes.  Delete the 1099-Rs that you have imported.

In order to delete them go back to the 1099-R section in the wages and income section of TurboTax.  Click 'update' and then you should be presented with a list of the 1099-Rs that you have entered.  Click the little trashcan next to each one.

Now, go back and re-enter each of them.  When it wants to import them for you click on "I'll enter them myself".  Then type each one into TurboTax making changes where necessary.

Keep in mind that the code in box 7 of each 1099-R tells the IRS what is taxable and what isn't, as does the amount in box 2a.  So if you are changing the taxable amounts reported on those forms then you should have a documented reason for why you are doing so.
