Solved

2017 was the first year I needed to take an RMD. I took this first RMD (and 2nd) in 2018. Do I need to report it on my 2017 tax return or do I report both RMDs in 2018?

Yes. Both on 2018 tax return. You should get two 1099-R statements.

Assuming that both distributions came from the same account, it's likely that the total of the two distributions will be reported on a single 2018 Form 1099-R.

You will be able to designate that the distribution was RMD on your 2018 tax return.

I turned 70 1/2 in Jan 2017 but elected to take my 1st RMD in Jan 2018 and my 2nd by Dec 2018. Do I report both RMDs in 2018?
