Question

A 1099R was provided to me by the New Jersey Division of Pensions and Benefits (for unemployment), but TurboTax doesn't give me an option to enter this as a payer. Help!

Unemployment is reported for Form 1099-G, nor Form 1099-R.

To add unemployment into TurboTax:

  • Type unemployment in Search in the upper right
  • Click Jump to unemployment
  • TurboTax will ask (1) whether you received unemployment, (2) whether it was government (1099-G) or private and (3) whether you repaid any benefits. Answer those questions.
  • Click continue and enter your information.

Unemployment is taxable on your federal return, but not taxable in New Jersey.
